The fund description is as follows: The investment seeks results that correspond generally to the price and yield performance, before fees and expenses, of the S&P India Nifty 50 Index. The fund will invest at least 80% of its total assets in securities that comprise the index and depositary receipts representing securities of the index. The index measures the equity performance of the top 50 companies by market capitalization that trade on the Indian market. The fund is nondiversified. 2. Power Shares India (PIN)Another low-cost way to get into the Indian market. At the time of writing, its only $21 a share. The investment seeks to replicate as closely as possible, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of the Indus India index. The fund normally invests substantially all of the assets in a wholly-owned subsidiary in Mauritius. It will normally invest at least 90% of total assets in securities that comprise the index and ADRs based on the securities in the index. This fund is nondiversified. 3. Wisdom Tree India Earnings (EPI)If an Indian company has a market capitalization of at least $200 million and had $5 million in earnings in the last year, it qualifies to be included int he Wisdom Tree India Earnings fund. This ETF had a stunning year-to-date return of almost 86% over 2009-2010. Top holdings include the State Bank of India, an oil & gas company, and a home finance company. Unfortunately at this time investment opportunities for India based funds are limited. Van Eck registered for a small-cap India fund in the fall of 2009, but as of now this fund is not available for trading.
